SIMAS: A Web-Based Computer System Simulator

his paper describes the web-based educational computer system simulator SIMAS. The simulator allows one to enter and compile an assembly language program, as well as load and execute the resulting machine code. Machine instructions can be executed one at a time or in continuous mode. Currently, the executed instruction is highlighted in the computer memory and every phase of its execution is presented visually to the user. The simulator enables the user to visualize the whole execution process of an instruction and to compare assembly and machine language instructions side-by-side. The software package is written in Java as an applet and thus can be run from within any Java-enabled web browser.
