Legal Document Management: An Integrated Approach

In this paper, we introduce the main legal document management concepts. Furthermore, we review legal document types and formats, legal document life-cycle phases, and legal document management systems components implementing those phases. Several successful cases studies of legal docu- ment management are identified. Based on the review and the case studies, we identify several issues in legal document management and give recom- mendations on how to overcome those issues. The recommendations come down to using standardized document and metadata formats, publishing documents and metadata using open data recommendations if possible and using standards-abiding software.
