Apstrakt:
In 2010 the city of Gabrovo celebrated its 150th anniversary. There is little historical information on the first years of its establishment. Therefore, the travel accounts of foreign travellers who passed through Gabrovo appear a valuable source of data. They send us back to the past, tell us stories - both sad and funny, reveal us the past look of the town and its changes over the years, as well as the character of its inhabitants. The present paper considers travel accounts dated back to XVII-XIX century. They describe the town of Gabrovo and its citizens as they were seen at that time.
